Hey guys! sometimes we have great, energized and happy mornings and other times it’s just one of those days. There is nothing more stressful than waking up with a giant headache or just feeling “off”.
Here are my best tips to help you tackle your day, stress-free and start your morning off on a positive note.
Print it out, tack it to your wall or tape it to your mirror so you can see it daily <3
Try not to snooze alarm 10,000x’s: When we press snooze, our body goes in and out of sleep. I know we all want to have those last few minutes but this is doing more harm to your energy for the day than it is good.
When your alarm goes off, make it a habit to wake up right away and don’t fall asleep again after lol.
Next, give Yourself time to wake up. Instead of jumping out of bed and rushing to start your day, take those 5 minutes you usually snooze and just breathe. Bat your eyelashes open, stretch your body while sitting in bed, feel the movements and let yourself wake up slow. You’ll feel so much more relaxed before you even get up.
Try not to go on your phone/social media first thing. You never know what you’re going to open your phone up to and it’s not good for our brains to be stimulated that early in the morning. As soon as you turn your alarm off, don’t touch your phone until you are all woken up, alive, and feeling good. I usually leave mine alone until during or after breakfast approximately 1 hour after waking up.
I know this isn’t realistic for everyone BUT try it out for at least 15 minutes.
Take your time to wake up, go to the bathroom, brush your teeth, and get ready for your day WITHOUT checking emails or going on social media. It can wait 🙂
I already mentioned this one but it’s good to say it again. Stretch and breathe for at least 5 minutes every morning. You’re probably thinking “Oh good lord Cass! Where will I find the time…” Trust me you have 5-10 minutes in your morning. Especially if you don’t snooze the alarm.
Stretching will help you wake up your body and feel relaxed, ready to tackle your day.
Next, drink a big glass of water before ingesting anything else so before breakfast lol. Think about it. We just slept and fasted for approximately 6-8 hours. Your body needs water to hydrate, get your digestive system going, and wake up. Plus this will help you get a little extra water in each day.
If you are drinking coffee before anything else, you are stimulating your brain from the time you wake up. Make the switch then have the coffee.
Eat a balanced breakfast. A balanced meal includes a protein, carb, fat, and veggie. Our bodies need fuel to do all the things for the day.
Try a spinach omelet with whole eggs or cheese and a slice of toast!
If you’re super busy and need something quick, opt for a smoothie. Try strawberry and banana with a Tbsp of almond butter and a scoop of protein! Blend all the ingredients together and take it on the go.
Next is my favorite! Gratitude journaling. List the things you are grateful for each day. I like to do “One line a day…” in my bullet journal. Gratitude journaling helps rewire the brain to see the good in every situation and makes you aware of what you have that maybe you took for granted.
This is something I do with my clients as well. They always end up feeling so much better in the end.
Meditation. This is something else I do myself, as well as my clients. Meditation helps you relax your mind and forget all the to-do’s and stressors for the day. It helps you start out in a positive mindset! When I am feeling super chaotic and have trouble focusing, I meditate and do some deep breathing. It makes me feel so much more at peace.
Next, plan your day out. I usually do this on Sunday’s and plan out my week. Then the night before or morning of, I make a list of all the things I have to do that day by priority.
I have 1 big task to do for the day, and 2-3 smaller tasks. No more than this or we become overwhelmed with a never ending to-do list. Try it out! It’s super convenient and helpful.
Get dressed and wear what makes you feel AMAZEBALLS not just comfortable. When we wear things that make us feel beautiful and confident, we are sure to feel that all day long. If we just wear whatever and do not care about our appearance, we will feel just like our clothes… blah.
Take the time to pick out a cute outfit, dress it up with some accessories like a necklace and earrings or a watch. Pair with some cute shoes and you’re on your way!
This list can seem daunting but when you try one new part of it each day, these habits will definitely stick forever.
I create new habits using a habit tracker in my bullet journal. It helps me stay on track and remember “oh yea! I get to do X today”. Then I fill in the little bubble or check it off for the day! After about 20-30 days, I have a new habit set in stone that I enjoy.
Do that with this list. And feel free to change this morning routine up! Make it your own to work for you, your lifestyle, and your schedule.
