Hey friends! I am getting ready to travel to my parents for Easter and since I am still working on healing my gut and body internally, I thought it would be helpful to share all the ways I am preparing myself since I won’t be home to cook all of my meals. This can be helpful when traveling just about anywhere where you will be out of your usual routine.
I want to start with what I have been working on so there is more clarity around how I am planning to continue this out of the comfort of my own home. This will also give you a good idea of where you are on whatever journey that might be and how you can look at your specific situation and move forward from there.
Each morning I take oil of oregano on an empty stomach with lemon water to help with the candida over growth that I have been working on regulating back to it’s norm and from what I can tell, all the things I have done thus far have been working. Oregano oil has so many benefits to it so I’ll have to make another post for that but just know it’s really good for you and I recommend looking into what it can do for you!
From what I’ve researched, the overgrowth has cause a leaky gut (microtears in the gut lining) and this is where a lot of my other issues are coming from so while I work on getting my gut microbiome back in balance, I am working on healing the gut lining too! It sounds complicated but it’s less intimidating than it sounds.
I do not eat any refined sugar, gluten, many grains still, or dairy. I am also lactose intolerant so I plan to get some raw milk since it still contains the enzyme to digest it that regular store bought milk has been filtered from. I plan to have this once in awhile in my coffee for instance or to make cheese and butter because I do miss having some dairy here and there. I mention this because I plan to pick some up at a local farm next week when we are back and test out how my digestion reacts to it. I originally wanted to bring some with us but I have yet to make it to the farm to pick any up.
I plan to bring a little chickpea pasta with me to have in replace of what my dad will make (regular wheat pasta) and since he makes his own sauce, I should be fine with that. I typically eat eggs for breakfast with my cassava flour muffins so I will bring some muffins back with me to eat as well.
You can find that recipe here! I’m officially obsessed!
I changed up the recipe a bit this week to try out a new banana cassava flour muffin. I used my original banana bread recipe as a guide for this one. That one contains dates but you can always leave them out. The cassava version still needs some adjustments but overall, still really good. When that recipe is perfected I will post it because I can already tell this will be my new go-to. Tommy likes it too and he’s the tough critic here.
My dad cooks with EVOO so inflammatory oils are not a concern for me but its also worth noting that 2 days on this journey of being about 80% on track with my gut health healing will not destroy me. It takes years or even months to really do a lot of damage and 1 meal will not make a difference but I’m also not planning to go overboard in that meal or few meals.
I am also going to make my 4 ingredient, gluten free, almond flour biscotti cookies either today or tomorrow morning to take with us!
Over the years of macros, dieting, meal plans, competing, coaching, and mentoring… I have learned to balance life out and really not hyper-focus on “messing up” because this is a lifestyle. I am changing my life to heal my body and live how I feel is best for me. I find this worth pointing out because I know how many people still struggle to find this balance and I want you to know it is possible. Focus and perspective makes all the difference. And most importantly HEALING.
As far as products I use daily, I have little glass bottles I’ve saved to reuse that I pour my soap and stuff into to take with me so they are travel sized, etc. This has always been natural for me to do so I will continue living how I normally do even when I’m not at home.
I most likely won’t be doing yoga Saturday and Sunday mornings but a quick stretch will be just as helpful for my neck and back. For those of you who don’t know, Tom and I were in a car accident last summer (hit and run) and my neck/trap area have not been the same since. After stopping PT I continued with yoga every morning and it’s the only thing that seems to help other than rest and recovery. So I continued, I adapted, and now I have a beautiful morning routine to connect with my body and spirit on a deeper level.
I hope you all have a beautiful weekend and a Happy Easter and I’ll see you in the next one!
