How To Make A DIY Crate Garden

Hello and welcome back guys! I’ve been obsessed with growing a garden ever since I started mine lol. I didn’t know if I would have my dad’s green thumb or not but I was determined. And boy did I grow some stuff!

Unfortunately where I planned to start my garden has a ton of chipmunk holes, a bunny hangout spot, and way too much shade from a random tree growing there. I had to come up with a plan B so I took it to Pinterest lol. DIY heaven. I saw the cutest crate garden ideas and I knew that was my golden ticket to have lot’s of sunshine and zero rodents feasting on my veggies.

A baby bunny already ate 3 of my big flowers that started to grow… i love them and all but when you put a lot of hard work into something and it gets eaten BEFORE the finished product, it’s a little triggering haha,

Making the crate garden was very easy. I made sure to put a liner in and staple them so the dirt stays in. You can’t just throw dirt in a crate and expect it to stay in there. Then just add the dirt and transfer the plants!

I plan to set up chicken wire around the sides to keep the animals from eating them. I am also going to buy some stakes to keep the plants upright. I read a lot on zucchini and summer squash and so many people suggested they grow best when they are tied up to a stake. I’m being prepared this time.

I have a few ideas what I can do with my extra plants that I don’t plan on keeping. I’ll be sure to share those here and I will give my sister allll the credit because it was her idea.

By the way, you want to check what plants need more sunshine than others. Some need direct some while others need partial shaded areas. Do your research and see what’s best for your plants.

I plan to get another two crates in a couple weeks and transfer my sweet peppers and tomatoes. These can be planted together because they are companion plants! Keep all peppers away from each other though.. I don’t want to bite into a sweet pepper and get a jalapeno (if those ever grow)…

I can’t wait to share the final product when everything is 100% complete!

Every time something new pops up I’m like a kid in a candy shop. I can’t imagine what I’ll be like when they actually grow food haha.

Questions for you!
1. Are you growing a garden this year?
2. What are you growing in your garden?
