Nutmeg Apple Crisp With Oat Crumble

Traditional apple crisp with nutmeg and an oat crumble. Easy to make and perfect for the holiday season!

Ingredients
  

Oat Crumble

  • ½ Cup Old-fashioned oats Can use a gluten free brand to make this GF
  • ½ Cup All-purpose flour Can sub for gluten free all purpose flour
  • Cup Packed brown sugar
  • ½ tbsp Ground cinnamon
  • Cup Cold unsalted butter Cut in small pieces

Apple Filling

  • 5-6 Cups Diced apples
  • ½ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour Can sub for gluten free all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Ground nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and spray a glass baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Oat crumble

  • In a medium bowl combine all oat crumble DRY ingredients. Then add in the small pieces of cold butter. Using a fork, pastry blender, OR clean hands lol.. cut in the cold butter into the dry mixture. You want crumbles here! Set aside in

Filing

  • Peel and dice apples.
  • In a large bowl, coat apple pieces with lemon juice. Mix in remaining ingredients until well coated.
  • Pour filling into prepared baking dish. Top with the crumble mixture.
  • Bake for apprx. 30-35 min. until the crumble is golden brown and the filling is bubbling on the sides. If you have a glass/clear baking dish, this will be easier to see.
  • Let cool for about 15-20 min before serving!
  • Top with some vanilla bean ice cream or whipped cream and enjoy.

Making this recipe, use swaps that are gluten free that you trust.
I have not tried to make this gluten free.
GF all-purpose flour is a 1:1 ratio and will be easy to swap with regular flour. 
Use a gluten free certified oat brand to sub for the crumble.
You can sub room temp coconut oil with butter 1:1 ratio.
